The picturesque setting of Port Townsend is a preserved piece of history few other settings in the Pacific Northwest enjoy. Economic prosperity in the 19th century as a well-known seaport with a thriving maritime district had many banking it would become the largest harbor on the west coast. During that era, homes and businesses were built in the ornate Victorian style, and because of the rapid decline of the economy in the 1890s, the distinctive architecture wasn’t built over in the intervening period. Today it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Present day Port Townsend is an arts community that celebrates its maritime pastimes, and attracts residents interested in small-town living with a tight-knit community, often for retirement. Located two hours from Seattle, outdoor experiences are also a draw with miles of beaches, trails, and parks inviting adventure.
